The new system, available for all variants including the TBM 980, adds to the Tanis line of preheating solutions already available for turboprop and rotorcraft markets.
Tanis Aircraft Products, a division of Hartzell Propeller, delivers on its comprehensive portfolio of preheating solutions with the recent approval of its supplemental type certificate for the complete Daher TBM 700 model series. The company also won parts manufacturing authority approval on the system’s kit.
The Tanis Preheating System for Daher TBM turboprops is now available under STC for all models. Preheating reduces thermal shock and helps components reach operating temperatures in a gradual manner, while reducing cold-weather related wear and tear.
Building on the Tanis promise for reliable engine preheating systems for Pratt & Whitney turbine engines, the Tanis TBM STC will cover all Daher TBM 700-series turboprops the original TBM 700 through the recently certificated TBM 980, applying to all serial numbers and model years over the TBM’s more than 35 years in service.
The Tanis TBM kit offers a multipoint configuration through an industry-leading, self-regulating system to deliver preheating to the turboprop’s overall powerplant installation, including the:
- engine,
- prop reduction gearbox,
- oil cooler,
- fuel control unit,
- accessory gearbox, and
- battery, among other components.
The system also provides avionics and cabin preheating, with LED power indication and circuit overload protection—all positioned to meet the requirements of the discerning TBM owner and pilot.

Engine and complete aircraft preheating offer significant advantages beyond pilot and passenger comfort:
Reduced engine wear and mechanical stress. Cold starts can induce strain on internal components, seals, and accessories. Preheating reduces thermal shock and helps components reach operating temperatures in a gradual manner, while reducing cold-weather related wear and tear.
Increased battery health, and more. Modern preconditioning systems may extend heating beyond the propulsion system to include gearboxes, hydraulics, avionics, and cabin areas. This helps protect critical systems, improve safety, and increase overall aircraft readiness in cold climates.
Easier engine starts and reduced warm-up time especially in cold weather. Preheated aircraft reach operating temperatures faster, reducing run-up time, fuel consumption, and unnecessary ground operation. This allows operators to spend less time warming up and the ability to bring passengers on board with less waiting time.
Improved avionics performance. The modern flight deck’s electronic hardware performs better in an environment with a stable, moderate ambient temperature inside the cabin. Where dispatch reliability is critical, a preheating system will offer support to the long-term health of advanced equipment.
The Tanis TBM system will be available in both North American voltage (115v) and European voltage (230v) to ensure global applicability for the kit, no matter where in the world an operator flies its TBM. Kits can be ordered today directly through the Hartzell Preheat website or through an authorized reseller/distributor. The Tanis system comes backed by a 5-year warranty.
