PRESS RELEASE

Million AirMillion Air Albany (KALB), an Avfuel-branded fixed-base operator (FBO), and the Albany County Airport Authority are proud to announce the availability of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), providing a meaningful solution for operators seeking to reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions from flight operations.

This marks the first location in New York to offer a consistent supply of SAF specifically for business and general aviation.

In collaboration with Avfuel and the airport authority, Million Air received its first truckload of SAF at Albany International Airport on June 18, marking a major milestone in the FBO’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

“Sustainable aviation fuel is the most effective tool we have today to reduce the aviation industry’s carbon footprint,” said Brian King, general manager of Million Air Albany. “This initiative has been four years in the making. It’s been a privilege to work alongside Avfuel and the airport authority to bring this initiative to life, it’s a partnership we’re incredibly proud of.”

“Albany International Airport is proud to be the first airport in New York State to offer sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through Avfuel to our general aviation customers,” said Sam Fresina, chair of the Albany County Airport Authority.

“This milestone reflects our deep commitment to supporting cleaner, greener technologies that protect our environment and advance the future of air travel. It also represents an exciting business opportunity for ALB, strengthening our position as an innovative transportation hub and a responsible community partner.”

The SAF, delivered by Avfuel from its supply point in the Northeast, has a targeted blend percentage of 30% neat SAF to 70% traditional jet fuel, providing a 24% reduction in carbon emissions over the fuel’s lifecycle compared to petroleum-based jet fuel. In its neat (pre-blended) form, SAF has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel.

“We couldn’t be prouder to partner with Million Air Albany and the Albany County Airport Authority to help further sustainability initiatives at a key Northeast location,” said Joel Hirst, Avfuel’s senior vice president of sales.

“Just six months ago, Albany’s authority and FBO leadership teams chose to entrust their fueling and operational support needs to Avfuel’s care as a new fuel supply partner, this sustainable product-line expansion reflects the power of our partnership, and our shared dedication to new aviation fuel technologies.”

This initiative is part of Million Air’s Beyond Green sustainability program, a company-wide commitment to responsible aviation practices. The Beyond Green platform focuses on integrating more sustainable solutions across Million Air’s network, from renewable energy investments and facility efficiencies to greener fuel options, like SAF. SAF is made from renewable and sustainably sourced waste materials, like used cooking oil.

Once blended with conventional jet fuel, SAF is a drop-in solution that meets ASTM D1655 specifications and performs to the same standards as traditional jet fuel, requiring no changes to aircraft, fuel infrastructure or handling procedures.

With the introduction of SAF, Million Air Albany and the Albany County Airport Authority continue to lead by example, helping operators achieve their sustainability goals without compromising on safety, reliability or service.
